Following numerous queries raised in the previous three year period regarding the speed of traffic on Park Lane, a scheme has been developed on Park Lane, Roundhay to try and reduce the mean speed of traffic. The design reflects the busy road environment on Park Lane, whilst aiming to reduce the speed of traffic using the route. This is to be achieved through the installation of a cycle lane on both sides of the carriageway and hatching down the centre of the road resulting in narrower lanes for traffic. The narrowing of lanes is a solution that has been utilised elsewhere in the city to achieve a lower speed of traffic, which subsequently lends itself to a reduction in both the frequency and severity of any collisions that occur. It should be noted that the cycle lane is advisory only, meaning vehicles can still park unrestricted as they do currently.
